SILO POINT: ROOM WITH A VIEW IN DOWNTOWN BALTIMORE

The sky’s the limit at the award-winning Silo Point, with spectacular panoramic views for miles, overlooking downtown Baltimore and the harbor. Their slogan of ‘Inside the City, Outside the Ordinary’ truly encapsulates this 24-story architectural gem, with its meticulous green design and juxtaposition of rough industrial concrete and steel to stylish features such as floor-to-ceiling windows. Silo Point has something for everyone, especially those in the market for a hip eco-friendly home with its own unique flair.

On a recent trip to Baltimore, I had the opportunity to tour the site, getting a first-hand look at what makes this B & O Railroad grain terminal turned urban living mecca so spectacular. Sales Manager Paul Sudano explained how sustainability is the hallmark of the project’s design, starting with the reuse of the vast majority of existing structural elements.

Original concrete flooring, structural columns, and silos are still in place, preventing unnecessary construction waste and the need for new raw materials. Some of the original metalwork has even been reintroduced inside as local artist’s installments.

Each of the over 220 residential units are given their own eco-flair, from the townhomes to the one-bedroom apartments all the way to the penthouse lofts. Paul described all the green features that come standard in all units, like the sunshades, low-E windows for reducing solar gain, and Toto water-efficient toilets. More subtle features such as exposed ceilings and smart usage of space help to reduce material costs while creating a one of a kind design aesthetic.

Silo Point’s location inside Baltimore’s Locust Point neighborhood allows for an easy commute to many other downtown neighborhoods, accessible by car or by the water taxi. Residents can also reduce the time they spend driving by taking advantage of the complex’s fitness and wellness center, conference rooms, restaurants, and wine club, all located inside the complex.

People as far as New York have taken advantage of Silo Point’s eco-friendly modern living without the New York City price tag. Those working anywhere convenient to route 95 will appreciate its accessibility. And with about half the units up for grabs, now is a great time to go take a look. You might just find your new green home.
